The Bush Administration Just Doesn't Get It
Today we have Rumsfeld trying to convince the world that the terrorists are like Hitler and must be opposed, not appeased. This is probably the most idiotic analogy I've heard Rumsfeld make, and it's ghastly to think just how stupid people in the Bush administration really are if this is what they are thinking. They simply don't understand history.
Rumsfeld is trying to refer to the fact that the world stood by and let Hitler annex both Austria and Czechoslovakia in the year just before WWII broke out. The world attempted to "appease" Hitler by letting him have what he wanted, rather than risking a war by fighting him. Quite ridiculously, Rumsfeld has apparently mistaken terrorists saying "get your f*cking troops out of our country and stop trying to run our governments just because you want to control the flow of oil" with "Let us take over whatever countries we want." I don't understand how he could have misinterpreted what the terrorists want so completely, except that since this is the same government that managed to justify invading Iraq for WMD's that didn't exist and that they knew didn't exist, at least this crazy line of thinking is consistent. It basically boils down to "justify controlling oil in the Middle East using any means necessary, and if anyone opposes us they are terrorists".
Nevermind the other thing that Rumsfeld fails to understand, which is that the only reason Hitler was able to come to power in Germany was because of the terrible conditions of the Treaty of Versailles. If the Allied powers hadn't shoved that treaty down Germany's throat, the resentment amongst Germans that led to Hitler's rise would not have existed and there would not have been World War II. Evil men don't assume power out of the blue, usually idiots like Rumsfeld create conditions that allow them to. We're doing that right now with our unjustified presence in not only Iraq but really the entire Middle East.
Our idiotic policies in the Middle East are breeding generations of Arabs who will hate the United States. That's the thing that the Bush administration needs to understand. Bush and co. should take a History 101 class taught by someone who isn't stupid.
