CNN Anchor reports from the Ladies' Room

Wow, a CNN anchor left her mike on while she went to the Ladies' Room during her break. Didn't this happen in a Naked Gun movie? When your life starts to play out like scenes from a spoof comedy, you know you're in trouble! I'm glad she's found a good husband though. ;-)

The Bush Administration Just Doesn't Get It

Today we have Rumsfeld trying to convince the world that the terrorists are like Hitler and must be opposed, not appeased. This is probably the most idiotic analogy I've heard Rumsfeld make, and it's ghastly to think just how stupid people in the Bush administration really are if this is what they are thinking. They simply don't understand history.

Rumsfeld is trying to refer to the fact that the world stood by and let Hitler annex both Austria and Czechoslovakia in the year just before WWII broke out. The world attempted to "appease" Hitler by letting him have what he wanted, rather than risking a war by fighting him. Quite ridiculously, Rumsfeld has apparently mistaken terrorists saying "get your f*cking troops out of our country and stop trying to run our governments just because you want to control the flow of oil" with "Let us take over whatever countries we want." I don't understand how he could have misinterpreted what the terrorists want so completely, except that since this is the same government that managed to justify invading Iraq for WMD's that didn't exist and that they knew didn't exist, at least this crazy line of thinking is consistent. It basically boils down to "justify controlling oil in the Middle East using any means necessary, and if anyone opposes us they are terrorists".

Nevermind the other thing that Rumsfeld fails to understand, which is that the only reason Hitler was able to come to power in Germany was because of the terrible conditions of the Treaty of Versailles. If the Allied powers hadn't shoved that treaty down Germany's throat, the resentment amongst Germans that led to Hitler's rise would not have existed and there would not have been World War II. Evil men don't assume power out of the blue, usually idiots like Rumsfeld create conditions that allow them to. We're doing that right now with our unjustified presence in not only Iraq but really the entire Middle East.

Our idiotic policies in the Middle East are breeding generations of Arabs who will hate the United States. That's the thing that the Bush administration needs to understand. Bush and co. should take a History 101 class taught by someone who isn't stupid.

Congressmen No Longer Represent Us

Even as late as 2006, as hot-topic issues such as the fighting in the Middle East and immigration are discussed throughout the country, we continue to see elected representatives at the highest level making clearly offensive remarks with racist overtones. Most recently Senator Burns of Montana described his roofer as a "little man" from Guatemala and sounded rather condescending in discussing how he verified that his roofer was not an illegal alien. Just a few weeks ago Senator George Allen called one of his interns by a racially offensive term. A few years ago Representative Moran of Virginia stated that were it not for Jews who supported the invasion of Iraq we would not be in Iraq. And it was less than five years ago that Senator Lott was forced to resign after making statements to the effect that America would be better off if it was still segregated.

In a day and age where people are clearly becoming more enlightened (witness the success of the movie Brokeback Mountain less than a year ago), why do we continue to have a Congress that is composed of people with these kinds of views? Quite simply, the average age of all Senators and Representatives in Congress is 60 years old. That means the average person in Congress was born around 1946. In 1946 blacks were still sitting at the back of the bus. The Civil Rights Act was still almost 20 years away. So the average person born in 1946 grew up in segregated schools where discrimination was not only common but legal. Women stayed at home in the kitchen. Japanese-Americans had only recently been released from their internment camps. In other words, the average Congressman grew up during a time where discirimination was the norm.

I am not saying that these people are evil or racists or bad. Certainly it would be ridiculous to say that anyone born in 1946 is a racist. But quite frankly, growing up in a era where discrimination was the norm can't possibly have left no effect on people. People from that era had to fight against the norm in order to not discriminate. In 1962 the Academy of Motion Picture would nominate Breakfast at Tiffany's for numerous Academy Awards, a movie that contains one of the most offensive caricatures of Japanese ever made.

My neighbor, a very nice old man who was originally from Cuba and grew up in the 40's in the melting pot of New York city, casually refers to black people as n*ggers. Mind you, he does not use that term in a derogatory sense, he means no harm whatsoever to blacks, but he really thinks that n*gger is a perfectly reasonable term for blacks. He simply grew up in a different time.

I think this is still the problem afflicting Congress. These people aren't necessarily racist, they aren't necessarily sexist, they aren't necessarily homophobic. But they did grow up in a very different time, and they are simply out of touch with today's generation. Many of these people cannot possibly represent America anymore. The average age of people in the United States of America is approximately 40 years old. That means there is a 20 year gap between the average age of Americans and the average age of people in Congress. Growing up in 1966 was undoubtedly quite different from growing up in 1946. Until today's generation of Congressmen retire and let younger representatives take over, we will continue to see remarks like these that are completely out of touch with how today's generation feel.

More Bungling in JonBenet Case?

So they finally arrest someone for the JonBenet murder case, they say they've got a good case, the guy has admitted it, everything. So why is his ex saying that he was in Alabama at the time of the killing?? Call me crazy, but I hope the investigators have an answer for this apparent iron-clad alibi.

Finally, an end to the insanity?

A federal judge has finally confirmed what everyone with half a brain already figured out, ruling that the NSA's program to monitor communications without a warrant is unconstitutional. A snippet from her ruling:

"[The NSA's program] violates the separation of powers doctrine, the Administrative Procedures Act, the First and Fourth amendments to the United States Constitution, the FISA and Title III."

Hey, if you're going to violate the law, might as well go all out, right? So why is this turkey still the President??!

Not Always Proud to be Chinese

When I read stuff like this, it always makes me want to cover my head in shame. Seriously, Chinese people can be so f*cking stupid sometimes. In an attempt to control an increase in cases of rabies attributed to dog bites, the Chinese government in one province of China has decided to start killing dogs. Not just stray dogs, mind you, not just dogs running around without a leash or collar. ALL dogs. And not kill as in "euthanize". Kill as in take a dog that's out for a walk with its owner and beat it to death.

Hmm.... how about, if there's a rabies problem with dogs, instead of beating them to death, I dunno, try VACCINATING THE DOGS?! This f*cking problem was solved half a century ago, figure it out!

Dumbasses.
