Hard-Bread Sandwiches: Who Likes Them??

There's a pretty big chain of bakery/sandwich stores in San Francisco called Boudin Bakery. They bill themselves as the Bay Area's best bakery. But the sandwiches that they make feature bread that is hard as nails. It is a real workout just to chomp off a bite, and then chewing it will eventually tire your jaw more than gnawing on a jawbreaker. It wouldn't even say that it tastes very good, but I can't tell since I'm expending so much energy just chewing.

What I want to know is, who the heck likes this type of bread? I know that it's a style of making bread, like how some people like to bake potatoes and others like to boil them. But honestly, who likes working this hard just to eat bread?

Personally, I like bread that is very crispy on the outside, but extremely soft on the inside. Say, toasted bread from a simple place like Quizno's, or Focaccia Bakery. Simple always ends up being better, doesn't it?

Just Plain Mean

A newspaper/magazine/something called the Boston Phoenix has published as list of the 100 Unsexiest Men in the World. Now, if this list contained people who had attempted to vie for the title of "Sexiest Men", then maybe they would be fair game to shoot down as "unsexy". But the some of the people on this list are film critics, and baseball owners. I mean, why would you list Roger Ebert on a list of "Unsexiest Men" in the world? That's just plain mean. I don't think Roger Ebert has ever claimed to be sexy, nor does he work in a job where he is expected to be sexy. That's like saying that my 80-year-old grandfather who can barely walk is unsexy ... who expected him to be? Sometimes journalists are just plain irresponsible and mean in their quest to get readership and get publicity.

Tom Cruise: Officially Insane?

I would like Tom Cruise to submit to psychiatric evaluation, so that when people call him "mentally ill" and "completely insane", it will not be opinion or slander, but actual fact.

His couch-jumping on Oprah is legendary. His comments on prescription medicine are notorious. And now, he has stated that giving birth to a baby is, like, a total blast! Party-time!!

Is this guy for real? Or is he some sort of muppet that Jim Henson is controlling from beyond the grave, a last laugh from him to us?? Somehow, I don't think that any women out there view the process of giving birth as being "a blast". Especially if they're not allowed to make any noise!

Along with his "total blast" comment, he also talks about how he's giving "seminars" to teach people about pregnancy and childbirth during Katie's pregnancy. How nice, he's pimping out Katie's medical condition as an educational forum.

Somebody, please shut him up!!

Political Correctness gone too far!

I am normally not one to criticize when a news reporter or other public figure gets hammered for expressing a dumb opinion in public. Lots of people in the media say stupid things in front of the camera that they should just be quiet about, regardless of whether or not I agree with them. However, when a somebody news producer says something in a private email, and then gets suspended over it, that's pretty ridiculous!

The second quote, about Madeline Albright, is a little bit inflammatory for obvious reasons, and he was clearly using his personal opinions about her to block having her on the show, and that's inappropriate and the guy should be suspended for that. But the first quote about Bush is completely legitimate. Reporters, news producers, etc, are allowed to have opinions about what they see going on around them. When Bush says something stupid during a press conference or debate or, really, anytime he opens his mouth, people all around the world are allowed to have an opinion about it and to state that opinion through private conversations. Simply sending an email to a colleague stating your opinion is NOT grounds for being suspended, regardless of your job. Now, if the guy had stated his opinions on the air, then that's not appropriate, or if he had then blocked Bush from appearing on GMA, that's not appropriate. When a news reporter or producer is doing their job, they should be impartial. But when they're outside of their job, when they're talking to friends and co-workers, they should be free to express whatever opinions they want. That's a core freedom, that's the reason this country exists.
